Santorini, Perissa and Kamari volcanic beaches

Posted 1 year ago by avatar marcelus in response to avatar bekky's question: Is it true that in Santorini people can lie in the sun on volcanic beaches? (give a different answer) .

That's the hot spot of Santorini...Those wishing to play in the volcanic wonderland can give it a try in Santorini black-sand beaches (Perissa and Kamari are most common). It's so odd to walk on volcanic sand, and then out on smooth lava when going for a dip. You need a beach mat, that's a fact. The unique thing about the island is its submerged caldera almost encircled by sheer cliffs...there was an explosion around 3000 BC that produced the centre of the island to sink...Its violent volcanic past is visible everywhere...
