The Acropolis, Athens

Posted 1 year ago by sasha in response to avatar dulio's question: I know the museum of Acropolis is a huge one, epitomising the glory of ancient Greece. But I can't imagine how exacly it looks like...is it a bulding, a derelict site...? (give a different answer) .

It's the best I've seen up to now. I spent two days in Athens in my last summer holiday and one afternoon was too short to see the Acopolis from "head to toe"...I mean not missing anything. It actually consists of a couple monuments: the Parthenon, a temple dedicated to Athena (the goddes of wisdom), the Erechteion, with its famaous Caryatids (those maiden statues supporting the portico), the Theatre of Dyonisos (god of wine), which was of crucial importance in the Athenian city-state. So, they all are remnants from the ancient civilization, spreading on the surface of a hill (Acropolis actually means "hill" in Greek). Be ready to climb!
